Libraries have long been recognized as the heart of educational strategies, serving as hubs for learning and knowledge dissemination. They are pivotal in promoting literacy development, enabling access to information, and empowering communities. UC Libraries, committed to the cause of social responsibility and quality education, stands as a beacon of learning and a provider of educational resources to the public.
The University has been actively engaged in a comprehensive and commendable book donation initiative throughout the year 2022. These altruistic efforts have not only benefited the academic community but also had a significant impact on educational institutions and the broader society.
Commencing on February 8, 2022, with the Philippine Librarians Association, Inc. – Cordillera Administrative Region Librarians Council (PLAI-CARLC) receiving 186 volumes of books, the university continued its contributions. On February 18, Saint Therese School of Tomay, Inc. was given 321 volumes, followed by the Baguio City Public Library receiving 316 volumes on March 15. The commitment to knowledge dissemination extended to UC-SHS for their Adopted Community on June 9, where 168 volumes were provided. Further illustrating the dedication to education, UC Campo Libertad generously donated 215 volumes to Camp 7 Elementary School on August 12, and 244 volumes to Nangalisan Elementary School on August 17. A noteworthy initiative in August saw UC Campo Libertad contributing a substantial 574 volumes to Muntisuri Baptist Academy, Inc., on August 3 and August 18. On September 2, 186 volumes were donated to the Municipality of Calanasan, Apayao, with Damortis National High School receiving 378 volumes on September 19. In sum, these collective efforts culminated in an impressive total of 2,588 volumes of books donated by UC in 2022, underlining the university’s unwavering commitment to the advancement of education and knowledge dissemination.
The UC Libraries actively engages with the community in various ways primarily by ensuring access to information, offering support for education, and creating cultural and social spaces for all. With a solid commitment to social responsibility and a passion for learning, UC Libraries has also opened the facilities to the public, welcoming visiting researchers and intellectually curious and services.
